I think this request should be more explicit about what is two-way sync. In my case, not having two-way sync from Google Contacts into Dex is a near on a deal-breaker for me using Dex. Google Contacts is used to keep my contacts in sync between my native devices (Mobile, Tablet, Desktop), and is my single source of truth for contact information. This is important because there are many cases where a user's contact details need to be updated inline such as:
They send a text message or WhatsApp with an unknown number, so you use the native "Add to Contact" feature
They email from a new email address, and the "Add to Contact" feature is used
Google Contacts surfaces email addresses that don't belong to a contact, so you create a contact there and then. Without two-way sync, all of the updates and new contacts that are created in all native applications and Google Contacts are never replicated into Dex. What's worse, given Dex has one-way sync into Google Contacts, there is a risk these changes may in fact even be overwritten. I believe this feature is critical to offering Dex as a viable personal CRM & contact management solution, and is exactly why all OS native solutions have two-way sync with contact services like Microsoft, Google, etc.

Dex is useless if not the master source between phone, email, linkedin, etc. and in order to be so it needs to be synced to master contacts

This is a must have - Dex has to be master source of truth and that won't happen if it doesn't sync back to phone and email through something like google contacts
To be fair, without this I'm out of Dex

Matthew Silberman the main use case for lots of users are:
open a vcard sent by email or whatsapp and be able to directly create the contact, either because Google contact sync to Dex, or if you can bypass and open Dex that works as well for me (but I don't think possible)
have the contacts in Gmail sync both ways
have contacts offline (shame to not have Dex available offline)
It seems that there are 2 features mixed here:
Dex having his own CardDav server, so can be use in clients that allow to setup the CardDav server
Dex sync 2 ways with Google contact => Dex behaving as a client to Google Contact CardDab server
I think I need 2, unless you tell me I can have with 1. my android contacts directly synced with Dex CalDav, so my whatsapp issue and offline modes are solved. Will in need Davx5 for that ?
It remains Gmail which will not use the android contacts but the Google contacts I imagine.

Hi everyone, we appreciate the excitement for two-way contact sync and look forward to releasing it in the near future!
For transparency, we want to share details in advance on how this feature will work. You’ll be able to see and modify your Dex contacts from your computer or phone’s contacts app; changes you make there will show up in Dex, and vice versa. This will be possible using a technology called CardDAV.
What this feature won’t include is the ability to sync contacts in both directions between Google Contacts and Dex, since Google Contacts doesn’t allow you to add and sync a CardDAV account.
We know this may change the workflow a bit from what some of you had in mind, and if you’re one of those people, please reach out at [email protected].
For everyone else, we can’t wait to deliver this feature and make your contact management experience even better!

Matthew Silberman so any changes I make in Dex will no longer flow back into Google Contacts?

Hey Jonathan — they will! We're going to continue offering our existing One-Way Google Contacts Sync, but for users who want two-way sync, we'll point them towards this new CardDAV feature.

Matthew Silberman awesome! I wanted to write with encouragement and appreciation this is starting.
If Dex can power Google Contacts and be the central hub for everything, I think it is a game changer.

Sync one way is a real show stopper in daily productivity. Dex is for improve social contact, but how when the person is unknown in your mobiles contacts?
Kevin, how do you handle this? Adding contacts manually twice? Please enlight us here.

This is very high priority to work long term. The more contacts I add via web, the more unknown texts and calls I receive. I need the info syncing with my iPhone.

Any news on this? As one of the investors in this startup, I really want to stress the importance of such a feature to make this app useful.
