It’s been 6 years; Dex has improved a lot, and there are many workarounds available.
I like that Dex is a central place for all my contacts. It should have the smartest quick search of all.
If one has 30-50 connections, you could use the Dex extension (which works on all Chromium-based browsers). On the profile page, clicking the logo creates a Dex contact even if you are not connected. It works on LinkedIn and Instagram; I have not tested on FB.
To those who are not bad, but just don’t have anything to talk about, or even I set the Frequency “Don’t keep in touch”.
I still import those who have bad habits, whom I forgot, I hate, or finished a relationship with, then Archive.
That way I can archive much more, and keep the workspace clean because I know I can restore it later. You should not delete your contacts, but archive them. Because if it is deleted indeed, Dex might think that it is a new contact and sync it again.
And with the recent Priority field, we have a new way of expressing people we don’t want to invest time in.
Alternatively, you could sync all, go to Contacts → Quick Action, and just spam the Spacebar “Archive contact”. With 100 keypresses per minute, you can sort 1k contacts once and for all in a 10-minute session.
Alternatively, if you have specific filters of who you want to keep, you can go to the “All contacts” tab, bulk select, and edit the entire list.
I thought I would never need people from a specific country. But now they are the target audience in the new business.
If I had needed to search on all platforms again, that would be much harder than just unarchiving from Dex.
Now I search in the “All contacts” tab. If I cannot find it, I go to the archive. And I want it to be the last place where I search.
Also, LinkedIn officially and explicitly recommends not connecting to people you don’t know 🤓
Therefore, this feature seems resolved.

To add to this; with 1000+ LinkedIn contacts import process is cumbersome if you want to select specific contacts. Would be useful to filter those you want to keep in a way (unless goal is to add all contacts to Dex).
