If the wrong LinkedIn was connected to a contact, the wrong photo appears on that contact - despite fixing it and syncing again. There is no way to delete it without replacing it - which is not always possible.
Click the contact's photo and use the bin icon. That guide also covers the case where a photo comes back after removal, which happens when LinkedIn Enhance or an address book sync refills it.
