When importing contacts via API, Dex is automatically merging contacts that share the same name (e.g., “Career Center”), even when they represent different institutions and unique emails.
Example cases:
Multiple “Career Center” contacts across different colleges
Distinct emails and organizations
Still merged into a single contact
This results in:
Multiple emails incorrectly attached to one contact
Loss of organizational separation
Corrupted CRM data structure
Requested improvements:
Include email domain + organization + metadata in merge logic
Do NOT merge when:
Emails differ significantly
Company/institution differs
Add a “strict mode” for API imports (no auto-merge)
Option to disable auto-merge entirely during bulk imports
