I'm writing to submit a feature request that I believe would be a game-changer for Mac users: a native macOS Mail app extension.
Currently, my workflow involves constant context-switching. When I receive an important email, I have to leave the Mail app and open Dex to review my notes, check the last interaction date, and remind myself of key details about the sender before I reply. This creates friction and breaks the natural flow of communication. I'm also unable to use web-only solutions like a Gmail extension because I manage multiple non-Google email accounts within the native Mail app to maintain a minimalist and efficient tech setup.
I imagine a sidebar appearing within the Mail app that would automatically surface the sender's Dex profile. The functionality could be prioritised like this:
This would be the primary, most-used feature. It would allow me to:
Instantly view the contact’s notes, tags, and 'keep-in-touch' status.
Quickly add a new note about the email interaction (e.g., "followed up on the project") directly to their timeline.
Set a reminder to follow up, all without leaving the Mail app.
To complement this, a "Create in Dex" button would be a significant time-saver. While macOS can create a basic contact that syncs via CardDAV, the true value here would be creating a contact and simultaneously adding the crucial CRM context (like tags and initial notes) in one seamless step. This turns a multi-app process into a single, efficient action.
This extension would seamlessly integrate Dex into the primary hub of communication for many professionals—the email client. It would make keeping the CRM up-to-date a frictionless, in-the-moment activity rather than a separate chore. I'm convinced this feature would dramatically increase user engagement and make Dex an even more indispensable tool.
Thanks for considering this idea. Keep up the fantastic work!
