Envelope icon mailto: link doesn't work

I'm not sure if this is a bug, feature, or browser issue, but when I click on the ✉️ icon at the top of the contact, the status says "mailto:[email address]" but the action is to jump down to the email address entry for that contact.
I would prefer the expected action of mailto, or opening a new email to that recipient using the email account known to your browser.
